Septic Systems

If you are buying a home with a septic system, you should consider having it inspected by a professional prior to the purchase and closing. Our standard home inspection does not include this type of specialized inspection but it is available as an optional inspection service. To inspect the system, we add dye to the system and flood the tank and leach lines. The appearance of dye on the surface will identify septic holding tank or leach field deficiencies.

We often recommend that the septic tank be pumped of solid waste after the inspection, assuring that you begin with an empty tank and a leach system that has been inspected. Holding tank pumping is recommended very 3-5 years to reduce the potential of solid waste build-up and eventual migration of those solid waste into the field leach lines.

Replacement of leach lines can cost thousands of dollars. Allow us to inspect your septic system before you purchase your new property and advise you regarding how to maintain a worry-free system.
